I offer pick up and drop off services from many shops in the Central Oregon region and prepaid mail-in service for clients throughout the rest of the United States.
All information you provide here will transit by email and will be as secure as unencrypted modern email can be. To every extent possible, all information will be kept private and confidential and used exclusively for the initial call back, email, or text reply.
Your information will not be shared with any third parties, added to any mailing lists, or used for advertising.
And since this is 2026, after all, I suppose I should also be totally clear that when you hear back from us, it’ll always be a real human reaching out - never an AI.
How this works:
Every service starts with a $135 diagnostic fee that includes shipping or travel costs to get it to me for an assessment, as pricing is impossible before I get the system under my microscope. That diagnostic fee goes towards any remaining aspects of the service that are approved and completed successfully.
Data recovery is the primary goal of most services, followed by complete repair of the device to full functionality. Some devices are fully repairable and others can only be practically repaired enough to get the data off of them.
Every assessment comes with estimates for board-level repair, main board replacement, and a ballpark number for what it would cost to replace the system entirely. Neither board nor system replacement will include data in cases where the device has onboard storage (which includes all modern MacBooks).
If the system is deemed actually or practically irreparable, you will not owe anything more than the initial diagnostic fee that you paid to begin the work. You may choose to either have the device returned to you for the cost of return shipping, or to have it responsibly and securely recycled for no additional charge.

Sometimes you get relatively lucky, all things considered.
This rate is for repairs on any system where a thorough cleaning and/or part swaps are enough to retrieve data from the system.
At this level, the work is all about having an eye for detail as every part is inspected under the microscope and everything that shouldn’t be there is cleared out of the way. Inspect, scrub, rinse, and repeat until the job’s done, and maybe replace a charred USB port or two in the interest of longevity while I’m in there.
Ideally I’ll repair and refurbish the system completely for reliable use into the future. The goal is always for devices to go out looking as close to brand new as possible.
Not all repairs will require parts. You’ll always have an opportunity to approve or deny any substantial additional costs.

Sometimes these things end up being a little more complicated than we’d like them to be.
This rate is for board-level repairs on most MacBook Neos, MacBook Airs, and gaming PCs with logic board costs under $800, and includes a thorough cleaning, part swaps, software work, and any standard board-level repairs that are required to retrieve data from the system.
At this level I’ll be probing for shorts, injecting voltage and using thermal cameras and specialized solvents to find problematic components, reballing or swapping out sets of ball-grid array chips, etching away residue and corrosion one pin or contact at a time, and sealing up reworked areas with UV-reactive resins.
Ideally I’ll repair and refurbish the system completely for reliable use into the future. Keeping high technology out of landfills is a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it!

This rate is for board-level repairs on most MacBook Pros and gaming PCs with logic board costs exceeding $800, and includes a thorough cleaning, part swaps, software work, and any advanced-to-extreme board-level repairs that are required to retrieve data from the system.
At this level we’re talking about drilling out chunks of the board to remove interplanar shorts, meticulously reconstructing vaporized solder pads, running jumpers to bypass burned vias, and repopulating entire discrete component nets.
Ideally I’ll repair and refurbish the system completely for reliable use into the future. Even in these extreme cases, it can be done. I’m actually typing this out on a MacBook Pro that was spilled on and needed an absurd amount of board-level repair work right now!

Hey. My name’s Eddie and I’ve been fascinated by electronics my entire life - see this incredibly 1990-coded photo of me on my fifth birthday as evidence. My earliest dream as a kid was to have a computer shop with my friends. After doing that successfully for well over a decade at Portland’s 1201 Computer Repair, I’ve moved myself over the Cascades to be with my family in Bend, and I’m bringing the expertise I built over all those years here to Central Oregon with Obsidian Technology.
The big goal here is to prevent innocent whoopsies from turning into timeline altering events for good folks.
I do this by bringing computers and the often-irreplaceable data they contain back from the brink after spills, drops, fires, and other minor-to-major mishaps using board-level repair work.
Board-level work is a skilled handicraft that lies at the intersection of engineering and art where the quality of the efforts truly determine the outcome. Work is done under high magnification using tools like a 900ºF hot air station, tweezers, soldering irons, etching drills, and medical scalpels to manipulate components that are often the size of individual grains of sand. It’s difficult, painstaking, meticulous work that I’ve found over time I really enjoy.
In my personal and professional life, I’ve met a LOT of really great people who have had a water bottle come open in their backpack or a buddy knock over a beer or a cat do a cat thing and suddenly they’ve found that their whole life has ground to a halt. Getting folks from “Oh no…” to “No way!” is a really great privilege when it all works out, and I’m honored to have an excellent track record of successful repairs and extremely relieved customers.
Finally, with Obsidian Technologies I strive to bring humanity back to the challenge of living in an increasingly technological world. I approach this work knowing that every person who reaches out to me is a complete being with a story of their own that’s finding themselves in a bind they more often than not did absolutely nothing to deserve, and so my role here is to do everything possible to get them back in business again as painlessly as possible.
